Dear Brightly: Vendure backend + admin for a Rx skincare brand

Dear Brightly is a US Rx telemedicine skincare brand that sells generic Retin-A via prescription. Their Shopify Plus theme couldn't handle state-by-state prescription rules without 2,400 lines of liquid + 3 third-party apps. We rebuilt the backend on Vendure with a custom plugin for the Rx logic. Full data migration. Their existing React frontend kept working via GraphQL.

A 30-min audit of your current stack and pain. We tell you honestly whether what you need is a plugin, a rebuild, or a problem you should just live with.

Architecture sprint (1–2 weeks, paid)

If we're a fit, we run a 1–2 week paid sprint to lock the data model, integrations, and AI patterns. You get a written architecture doc and an implementation estimate. If you walk away, the doc is yours.

Build (4–10 weeks for migrations)

We ship in 2-week sprints with weekly demos. Your team sees working software on Day 14. Blue-green deploys, validated data migrations, the existing frontend usually keeps working.

Common questions.

The framing is wrong. HIPAA is about your data flows, not a checkbox on a vendor page. We build systems that respect PHI boundaries: encrypted in transit and at rest, audit logging, access controls, and BAAs with downstream services (Resend, AWS, etc.). We've done this for telemedicine brands and we know what your security team will actually ask for.
Vendure has won most of our DTC health builds because the plugin architecture is clean and the GraphQL API is stable. Medusa is fine for simpler catalogs. Custom (Next.js + Stripe + your own backend) makes sense when you have <2 SKUs but very custom flows.
Yes. We built Dear Brightly's plugin that branches checkout on (state, eligibility, formulation strength). It maintains a state-by-state rule table that your compliance team can update without redeploying.
Some have direct Vendure equivalents (Klaviyo → Klaviyo via Vendure connector). Others we rebuild as Vendure plugins (often simpler than the original app). A few you genuinely lose. We tell you which ones in the architecture sprint so you can make the trade-off knowingly.
Dear Brightly took 11 days for backend + checkout. Yours depends on data volume, custom field complexity, and how many third-party integrations need rebuilding. Typical range: 4–10 weeks for full migration.
We keep your existing frontend if it works. Vendure exposes a GraphQL API; your React/Next/Vue frontend usually doesn't need to change. If your frontend is Shopify-theme-based, we'll rebuild it as a separate project.
